In 2009 the Hammond Design Group, LLC, working under an existing Continuing Services Contract with the Florida Department of Management Services (FDMS), was asked to redesign the 10th floor snack bar of the State Capital. Our task was to design a ‘coffee house’ for the Sharkey’s Coffee and Bistro. Working with FDMS and their client, Dr. Jeff Sharkey, we developed as-built documents detailing existing conditions and developed a new service line, seating areas, finishes and lighting arrangements. Upon completion of the construction documents we assisted FDMS with bidding the project and awarding the contract on September 10, 2009. Working closely with the contractor, FDMS and the client, the project was constructed in 27 days, completing it on October 2, 2009. Currently the space serves the Capitol Building, providing specialty coffees, breakfast items, salads and sandwiches.
